John R “Johnny” Anderson passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Friday, December 9, 2016. He was 89 years old.
Johnny was born on June 20, 1927 to Andrew and Jennie (Larsen) Anderson in Fountain Green, Utah. The Anderson/ Larsen families were direct descendants of Swedish pioneers called to settle the Fountain Green Valley.
Johnny voluntarily joined the Navy at age 17 and served our great nation throughout World War II. He had a sharp mind and shared many of his war stories in great detail with friends and family.
Johnny was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints after the war. He entered the mission home on May 2, 1949, and served in the Stockholm, Sweden mission. He and his wife later visited Sweden and Denmark to reconnect with mission friends and distant relatives.
Johnny met his beloved wife, Arline at a party. Soon after, they were married on June 6, 1952. Their 64 year marriage was full of love and adventure. They raised 5 children in Provo, Utah and spent much of their family time together in the great outdoors.
Johnny is known by many in the community for his Conoco station and for bringing the U-Haul trailer business to the state of Utah. He was referred to by some as “Johnny U-Haul.”
Johnny and Arline worked together in the Provo temple for 14 years and loved every minute. They also enjoyed serving in various callings in the church.
Johnny was best loved by his wife Arline and their 5 children: Keith (Susan), Kirt (Cindi), Karl (Karen), Jim (the late Syndee), Kathy (Ron), 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren (plus 2 on the way), and countless adopted loved ones. The grand & great grandkids were especially fond of Grandpa’s loving, teasing ways. He was also admired by his nieces and nephews, who loved their “Uncle Johnny.”
We are all so grateful to have had such a fun, handsome, hard-working, faithful and kind man in our lives. We hope to live our lives in a way that would make Him proud.
