JoDeen (Nielson) Marrott, of Orem, UT, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, following a brief two-year decline caused by dementia. Born August 7, 1955, JoDeen spent most of her life living, working, and building her family in Utah County. As the daughter of Calvin Nielson and Von Deen Crane, JoDeen was part of a family of seven children—Steve Nielson (Lana), Emery Nielson, Gene Banner, Suzann Floyd, Cindy Smith (Roy), and Evelyn Bond (Steve).
JoDeen attended Orem High School and later Utah Valley Community College, where she studied bookkeeping. In high school, she met her husband, Thomas Mayne Marrott, whom she wed in Elko, Nevada. While Thomas was stationed overseas, JoDeen made a temporary home for her and her first two children, Jeffrey and Kenneth in Yakima, WA. Once Thomas’ service was finished, they moved back to Utah County, where they had a third son, Tom, and continued their lives together; August 31, 2023, would have been their 49th anniversary.
Throughout her life, JoDeen worked in various areas, but her career passion was numbers. As a bookkeeper and tax preparer, JoDeen worked tireless hours to provide for her family. She was also a businesswoman, building several of her own businesses in embroidery, sewing, and consulting. Gardening, home projects, spending time with her sisters and reading took up the remainder of her time.
If you knew JoDeen, you knew she cared about you. Though her circle of friends was small, each of them was dear to her heart. She is survived by her sons Thomas Calvin Marrott (Deirdre) and Kenneth Wayne Marrott (Kip), her sister Cindy Smith, her brother Steven, and many nephews and nieces.
The family will say goodbye to JoDeen, a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend, at a graveside service at the Orem City Cemetery on August 25, 2023. Family and Friends may visit the family at Sundberg-Olpin and Wheeler Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah, from 10 - 10:30 a.m. that morning.
