Joan Marion Say of Orem, Utah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at about 9:43 p.m. due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis. She was 85 years old.

Joan was born to loving parents Bona Roe and Aaron Burr Mason in Inglewood California on June 9, 1932. A self-proclaimed tomboy, she was an accomplished tree climber, wall scaler, roller skater, and general harasser of her beloved older sister in her youth. She graduated from Provo High School.

Joan was married to Donald John Howes on April 15, 1951; they were married seven years and had two sons, James Burr Howes and Steven Douglas Howes.

On September 2, 1961, Joan married Arthur Richard "Dick" Say in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 51 years. Dick brought three children to the family, Steven Bruce Say, Arthur Richard Say Jr. and Mary Patricia Say.

Joan worked as a telephone switchboard operator during school and in the years following graduation. During her single years, she supported herself and her two boys starting as a car hop and working her way up to being a bank teller.

She enjoyed water-skiing, camping, family, and travel. She was also actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an avid genealogist.

Joan leaves behind her four living children: James Burr Howes, Steven Douglas Howes, Arthur Richard "Rick" Say Jr., and Mary Patricia Nelson, together with thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Richard Say; her mother Bona Roe Mason, her father Aaron Burr Mason, her sister Shirley Irene Mason, Don Howes, and Steven Bruce Say.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the LDS chapel located at 1051 East 200 North in Orem, Utah. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. just prior to the services at the church. Interment will at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary.
