J. Keith Muhlestein, of Lindon, Utah, passed away at the age of 80 on June 6, 2017. He was the son of Joseph Muhlestein and Juanita Russell, born on June 4, 1937. He married Myrna Gardner on May 12, 1960.
Keith served in the National Guard. His interests were incredibly varied. He farmed, worked orchards, had horses, worked on steel and pipe, welded, was an electrician and computer scientist, sang, played the guitar, was a pilot, sailed, built his own boat, water skied, hunted, was a lumberjack, drove semi-truck, did water-para-gliding, snorkeling, hiking, camping, repair work, loved tennis and volleyball, and spent his career working for IBM as an electrical engineer. He and his wife served two missions. The first was in the Nauvoo Temple helping with the open house and dedication and as the temple engineer and as a temple worker. The second was at the Hawaii Temple Visitor’s Center. They also served a part-time mission at the Provo MTC helping senior couples prepare for missions. He was a scout leader for a very long time, and has served in a number of other callings. He was a temple worker in four temples, playing a part in the dedication of three of those temples.
He is survived by his wife and his six of his children, a seventh child died just before birth. Kathy lives in Sierra Vista, Arizona, and has four children, three of whom survive. Wes lives in Lindon, Utah, and has three children. Kerry lives in Orem, Utah, and has six children. Tammy lives in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and has three children. Jeff lives in Provo, Utah, and has three children. Leon lives in Payson, Utah, and has five children. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Lindon LDS 5th Ward Chapel at 610 West 100 South in Lindon, Utah. Viewings will be held on Sunday, June 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah, and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in the Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo, Utah.
