Jesse Asay

Jesse Wortham Asay, 87, of Springville, Utah, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017. For the last number of months, he was attended to by his loving wife of over sixty years Janice Ellen Foster who survives him with their five children: Michele Waite, Brent, Mark, Alan, and CaraLee Hacking; 18 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Jesse was born April 23, 1930, in Abraham, Utah, to his parents Eleazer and Flossie Wortham Asay. He was second to the youngest of six boys and grew up along Carterville Road in the river bottoms of Orem, Utah. He earned his Eagle Scout award and graduated from Lincoln High School, Brigham Young University (physics major), and the University of Utah where he received his Masters degree in Engineering Administration. Jesse served a Spanish-speaking mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) to the Southern States Mission.

He served in the active duty United States Air Force as a flight instructor for the T-33 jet trainer and later in the Air Force Reserve. While serving in the Air Force, he married the love of his life Janice Ellen Foster in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and soon thereafter they started their family. He was an accomplished technical writer and worked for the Boeing Aircraft Company as an aeronautical engineer, retiring in 2007 after 37 years of service. Jesse was called to and served in various leadership capacities in the LDS Church; having served as a bishop twice, his favorite and most rewarding calling over the years was that of being a home teacher and he loved the families he served. Jesse enjoyed singing and was gifted with writing poetry. He was an avid game player and was a master at playing chess.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the LDS Lindon 10th Ward Chapel located at 1051 East 200 South in Lindon, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the outpouring of love, support and service that has been rendered and expressed, especially from the Valeo Home Hospice and Legacy Village of Provo.
