Jennie Lee Bird LeFevre (86) of Provo passed away on December 5, 2022, at the home of her daughter Celya in Ferron, Utah.
Jennie was born March 5, 1936, in Salina, Utah to Dartha Gordon and Walter D. Bird. She was the 3rd of 6 children. Her favorite past time as a child was spending time with her very beloved dad, which often included riding horses and going to horse races. Jennie's first job was as a waitress on roller skates for a drive-in restaurant. She married "my sweetheart" Thomas Grant LeFevre ("Tommy") on June 11, 1952. They first eloped to Idaho, then traveled to San Francisco where Tommy had to report immediately for duty in the U.S. Navy. He served as a gunners mate on board a ship in the Korean War. While Tommy was on duty, Jennie stayed with his older sister Joy and helped care for Joy's children. Tom and Jennie returned to Provo, where they raised their 9 children. Jennie's love of sewing began in those early days. They were unable to afford to purchase fabric, so Jennie purchased oversized clothing from Deseret Industries and cut it apart to create new clothing. Nearly all the family's clothing, including coats, was sewn by Jennie in their younger years. She became a very talented professional seamstress and began to do alterations from her home in Provo. Later in life she also worked for Beehive Clothing for many years.
Jennie was passionate about genealogy and spent much of her time compiling photos and stories, creating family books and photo albums to pass down. She and Tommy initiated a huge LeFevre family reunion including hundreds of descendants of Luke and Julia LeFevre every year on the Tebb's horse ranch in Panguitch. Jennie was an active member of the LDS Church and loved serving in the Provo LDS Temple. She was a mentor to many young mothers, sharing her knowledge of canning and sewing. She and Tommy frequently welcomed new people from their LDS ward into their home; and were the "adopted grandparents" of several beloved family friends. Tommy and Jennie endured a great deal of hardship, including the loss of four sons and three grandsons at young ages. They set the example of how to press forward through difficult life circumstances and maintain their faith and their loving hearts. Tommy received many accolades and honors throughout his life for his service, and Jennie was the fiery spirit at home holding it all together and making his life of service possible. She greatly looked forward to being at his side again for all eternity. Jennie will be missed by all who knew her for her loving generous spirit. She had a quick wit, a sharp mind, and a great sense of humor.
Jennie is survived by her children LuWane (Mark) Saunders, Thomas Scott LeFevre, Celya (Morris) Singleton, Bradley LeFevre, Justin (Summer) LeFevre, her grandchildren Sarah (Allen) Kiesel, Tukota LeFevre, Katie (Rick) Lindsay, Max (Randy) LeFevre, Casey LeFevre, Angela Enno, Kristina Enno, Kimberly (Tyler) Savage, Arianne (T.J.) LeFevre, Laren James ("Jim") LeFevre, Mark Thales LeFevre, and Paul Spencer LeFevre; her daughter-in-law Rachel LeFevre; her grandsons Ned Mathew LeFevre, David Lawrence Enno & Jandson Cayle LeFevre; & her great-grandchildren Sarah Rose Kiesel and Jordan Saunders.
