Jeannine Hawke Sumpter, 83, of Orem, Utah, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021. She was born August 28, 1938 in Provo, UT to Don Worden and Blanche Moulton Hawke. She married Wynston Horton Sumpter May 1, 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Jeannine graduated from Provo High School. She was Bookkeeper/Secretary at the Seattle Bishop’s storehouse, and later volunteered there for several years. Her primary love and focus of her adult life was as a homemaker for her family. Jeannine was fiercely devoted to Jesus Christ, her husband and her children, an example of a true Christian life. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having held many positions such as ward and stake Young Women President, ward and stake Relief Society President, counselors in those organizations and in. Primary, and teacher in those organizations. She also served as a Seattle Temple worker working with newlywed brides.
She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters, Sheldon Rush (Karin Diehl) Sumpter, Wilmington DE, Kyle Don (Carole Longhurst), Covington WA, Lori S.(Thomas) Gelwix, Richland, WA, Marianne S. (Russell) Diehl, Chandler, AZ; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister (Joyce Hawke Rankin) and four infant children.
Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 27 at the Suncrest 5th Ward Chapel on 140 North 400 West Orem. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
