Jean Stevens Moore
September 25, 1930 - June 29, 2019
Jean Stevens Moore passed away June 29, 2019 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born September 25, 1930 in Gunnison, Utah to Violet Matheson and Joseph Ervin Stevens. She was raised in Cedar City with her siblings Alyce, Homer and Gordon Stevens. The family later moved to Provo, Utah where Jean was a member of the drill team and graduated from Provo High School. She was working at the ice cream shop when Don Moore came in and ‘scooped’ her up. The couple was married in Provo on March 17, 1950. The marriage was blessed with four children, Donald Bruce Jr. Allen Steven, David S, and Laura Jean. The family was sealed together for time and eternity in the Manti Temple on February 16, 1963. Don and Jean just celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Jean loved being a wife and mother and nothing gave her greater joy than being with her husband, children, and grand children but, after her kids were all in school, she went to back to school herself and graduated with a business degree from Utah Trade Technical College. She worked at Orem City and for the Utah State Department of Children and Family Services.
Jean was a quilter, did embroidery, and read voraciously. Jean also loved singing and sang with the Chauntenettes Women’s Choir for nearly 30 years even touring through Northern California and to Nauvoo, IL.
She loved to travel, but she happened to be married to one of the great home-bodies in all history. She did manage to drag him to NYC with friends, Germany with cousins, and a cruise with their kids. They vacationed on Lake Powell, spent many winters at Desert Hot Springs, and had family vacations at Disneyland even celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with family at the Happiest Place on Earth.
Jean was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent her life in the service of her God and her fellow man.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, children Bruce & JaNel Moore, Allen & Becky Moore, David & Druscilla Moore, and Laura & Dale Stewart, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, with 1 great-great grandson on the way and sister Alyce Rohrer, and brothers Homer and Gordon Stevens. . She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille.
Our family would like to thank the wonderfully sympathetic staff at Treeo Senior Living for their kindness and acceptance; for Elevation Hospice of Utah for the service and support they provided our mother, and particularly for the friendship, love, and care of Jerri Taylor, who Jean called her “Good Angel.”
Graveside services were held at the Orem City Cemetery on Monday, July 1, 2019. Condolences may be expressed to the family on this page.
