James Brent Foster, 71, of Provo passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. He was born February 15, 1951, in Pocatello, Idaho to William Henry and Helen Hawkes Foster. He married Connie Price of Provo on October 24, 1980, in the Provo Utah LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2010.
Brent had a gentle soul. He always worked through every challenge he faced with determination and grit. After suffering a near-fatal traumatic brain injury at 10 months old, he beat the odds time and again by going to school, getting married, having a family and working through to retirement. He attended BYU where he met his future bride Connie at the Morris Center Cafeteria. He proposed to her twice before relenting to her insistence that he serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tallahassee Florida. He returned with honor and after proposing marriage one more time, Connie said “I Do”.. After five years of trying to start a family, their son Craig was born one week after their 5th wedding anniversary. Brent was determined to provide the best life he could for his family and worked for nearly 30 years for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) as an interior bus cleaner in the maintenance department. Brent remained faithful and active in the LDS Church throughout his life, serving in local positions and as a temple worker at both the Provo Utah and Provo City Center Temples. He was a big fan of BYU and volunteered countless years at Education Week. He watched every BYU Football game he could and loved BYUtv where he would watch BYU Devotionals, religious studies programs and Studio C comedy shows.
Brent is survived by his son, Craig Foster of Provo; and his four siblings, brothers: Bill (Jo) Foster of Mesquite Nevada; Gerald (Sue) Foster of Puyallup Washington; Paul (Cathy) of Boise Idaho; and sister Amy (John) Hatten of American Fork Utah. As well as numerous nieces .and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Brent’s LDS Chapel 1498 E. 800 S. Provo, UT 84606 on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 1:00 pm. There will be a brief viewing at the same location from 11:30 am-12:30 pm prior to the services. Burial services will take place following the funeral at the Provo City Cemetery.
