JaNel Moore

March 5, 1954 — October 14, 2024

Hurricane

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of JaNel Edwards Moore, who left us on October 14, 2024, at the age of 70. A cherished wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, JaNel touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, kindness, and infectious spirit. She passed away following an accident in New Orleans, Louisiana, after returning from a wonderful three-week trip through Central America and the Panama Canal with her husband, brother, and sister-in-law.

JaNel was born on March 5, 1954, in Provo Utah, and grew up in Orem, Utah. She graduated from Orem High School in 1972 as a proud “Tigerette” on the Orem High School drill team. After briefly attending BYU, she found great joy in her 52-and-a-half year marriage to her high school sweetheart Bruce Moore. Together they built a beautiful life full of family, laughter, love, and cherished memories. Their deep bond was a true example of companionship, support, a model for the eternal power of love, and “Moore”.

Family was everything to JaNel. She was a devoted mother to her three sons, Geoffrey Moore (Danielle) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Scott Moore of Bend, Oregon; and Brett Moore (Nicole) of Los Angeles, California. She adored her five grandchildren and her two great-grandsons, as well as her many nieces and nephews.

JaNel was actively involved in her children’s lives, serving in various roles such as scout leader, PTA Volunteer, and team mom. Family gatherings, Harvest Dinners, and Super Bowl Sunday’s at JaNel’s home were always filled with “Moore” joy and laughter. She had a talent for making everything enjoyable for those around her, even when she got a little too energetic while towing the kids behind the boat on a tube at Lake Powell.

JaNel remained close to her parents throughout their lives, living near them and sharing many special moments together. She had a close bond with her mother, enjoying the theater, music, and family time. With her father, she enjoyed the time spent riding horses, wrangling mules on trail rides, roundups, and joining in various parades.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, JaNel most recently served as Gospel Doctrine teacher in her ward in Hurricane, Utah. She also served in various church callings throughout her life, including Primary, Relief Society, and Young Women. She loved to attend the temple, study her scriptures, serve others, teach and be with her friends in the Relief Society. Her faith was evident in everything she did, as she lived as a shining example to all.

JaNel was very creative, with talents in crafting, writing, and art. She was an accomplished painter, writer, calligrapher, cake creator, cookie artisan, and “Moore”. She had a busy nature and was seldom sitting still. Her annual Christmas letter was eagerly anticipated by all who received it, especially for the clever ways she played with the name "Moore." Her creativity and talents have provided lasting memories for everyone.

JaNel and Bruce enjoyed many common interests and hobbies. She had especially fond memories of their years touring the western United States and Canada on their Harley-Davidson motorcycle with groups of friends and family. Despite facing many physical challenges in her later years, JaNel never lost her adventurous spirit, positive attitude, and energetic personality. Together with Bruce she enjoyed traveling, whether it was to see her sons’ families, Disneyland, traveling for genealogy, or history and culture, JaNel made it happen. She cherished memories of international trips and special moments with family and friends.

JaNel is survived by her loving husband, Bruce Moore; her three sons; one brother; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law; her grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends in Sandy, Orem, and Hurricane who will forever treasure her memory. JaNel leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and the importance of cherishing every moment.

A celebration of JaNel’s life will be held on October 25, 2024, with a gathering from 9:30 to 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am both at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary; 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah. We invite all who knew and loved her to share their memories, support her family, and honor her spirit.
