Our husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather completed his earthly mission on March 31, 2017, and returned to his Heavenly Father.
James Douglas Dunford was born February 10, 1933, to Alma Teller and Thelma Tueller Dunford in Provo, Utah. He married his eternal sweetheart Jean Irene Nebeker on July 13, 1951. They were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on June 28, 1957.
He is survived by his sweetheart Jean and children: Leslee Dunford Miller, Springville, Utah; Randall Dunford (Vicki), Lehi, Utah; James Dunford (Randy Kae) Lehi, Utah; and daughter-in-law Cindy Dunford, Orem, Utah. His son, Ronald Dunford, passed in 2016. He is survived by twelve wonderful grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Helen Jeppson, and one brother Chaunce Dunford.
He retired from Pacific Gas and Electric Company in California after working there for 42 years. He worked in the Electric Substation Department. He worked on the starting up and installing of the Geysers Power Plants, in Lake County, California, which started the first geothermal electric generating station run by a utility in the United States.
Jim loved his family thoroughly and enjoyed being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He raised his family in the San Francisco Bay Area. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many Church positions in his life time. In California he was a bishop, a counselor in two different stake presidencies, high councilor, stake missionary, ward clerk and other church positions. In Utah he served as stake clerk, stake executive secretary, a branch president at the MTC, and service missionary at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. After retiring, he worked for the Uinta National Forest for 11 years in their Senior Workers Program. He was also a volunteer at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. He loved Utah and was so happy when they moved back to Orem in 1986.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Valeo Home Health, especially Toni, Kristina, Lisa, and Holly, for their loving care for Jim. Also, the family wishes to thank all the staff at Bel Aire Assisted Living in Orem for the wonderful care and concern for Jim during his final months.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the Orchard Stake Center Chapel, 810 East 600 North, Orem, Utah. Viewings will be held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 South State, Orem, Utah, and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
