James Quick

James B Quick, 91, of Provo, UT, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019.  He was born on January 2nd, 1928, in Anaconda, MT, to Charles Ross Quick and Audrey Lenore Keppner.

Growing up in Anaconda, Jim loved to fish with his mother in the mountains, explore the auto dealership that his father operated, ice skate on the local rink, and catch movies at the Washoe Theater.  Jim faced challenges in his life – the Great Depression, moving to Spokane, WA at age 13, losing his mother to cancer when he was 14, and surviving as a 141 pound offensive tackle on the high school football team.  After graduation  from John Rogers High School, Jim joined the United States Navy and served at the end of World War II in China.  After graduating from Kinman Business School, Jim worked for the Newport PUD and then Alsco Linen which later became Steiner American Corporation.

In August of 1957 Jim met Pauline Lovell, and in December of the same year were married in the Manti, Utah Latter-day Saint temple.  Six boys joined their lives and added excitement, sports, and boy scouts!

Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved working in the temple.  He and Pauline served a mission in the Dominican Republic and in Spokane, Washington.  Ever serving, he was a faithful home teacher and helped move countless families...even into his 80s.

Gardening was Jim's favorite past time and his tomatoes and raspberries were the best...only outdone by his prolific zucchini.  He loved traveling – whether by riding bicycles on the Centennial Trail or  road tripping with their RV exploring the country visiting children and historical sights.  He was strong as an ox, and his boys took it as a challenge to beat him in wrestling,to break his iron grip, or on the “tube of death” behind their boat.

Our father was a man of few words, but he taught by example his love for our mother, family, church, and nation.  He was a selfless man who put the needs of people around him in front of his own needs.  We learned from watching him the value and necessity of hard work, the joys of serving others, and how to be a dedicated and loving father and husband.  He set the bar high for his sons and we will strive to follow the example he set.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pauline Quick, six boys, and loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private family Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 21st followed by internment in Oak City, Utah.
