Jack Clark

March 2, 1923 — June 20, 2022

Orem, Utah

Jack Clark of Orem, UT, beloved husband, father, grandfather great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, passed peacefully from this life on June 20th, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Jack was born on March 2, 1923 in Provo, Utah; the 4th child of Glen Lewis Clark and Laura Rowe Bassett. While his mother taught his sisters, He and his brothers fished the Provo River, and tramped the hills of the area, especially Rock Canyon.

He became interested in Boy Scouts at the age of 14, and by the time he graduated from Provo High School he had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He remained interested in scouting his entire life and eventually achieved scouting’s highest award, the Silver Beaver.

After Pearl Harbor, Jack and his younger brother, Max, enlisted in the navy. Jack served in both the Atlantic and Pacific aboard 5 different battleships, including the USS Washington where he saw most of the war from the bridge as Admiral Lee’s personal staff aide.

In 1945, while home on his only leave, he bumped into 17-year-old Norine Mecham who took his breath away. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple a week later.

The weeklong courtship worked, as attested by the addition of  Steven Jack, Kathleen Jean, Marian Annette, and Anna Marie to the household in quick order.

After the war, Jack worked several jobs, including at Geneva Steel, but finally pursued a career as a baker. And what a baker he was! He managed the BYU bakery then took a position as bakery manager of the Provo 12th North Safeway store.

By the end of his career, he was Safeway’s National bakeries supervisor, working from their world headquarters in Oakland, CA.

He retired in 1983 and returned to Utah and built homes in Genola and Payson. He lost his beloved Norine to breast cancer in 2007, and a year later met and married Betty Mae Kinder (Moore), of American Fork. They were married 14 years before his passing.

Preceding Jack in death is his eternal companion, Norine (Mecham) Clark, his mother, Laura, his father, Glen, a brother, Donald, a brother William, a Sister, Margaret, and a brother Max.

He is survived by his beloved spouse, Betty Mae Clark, a brother, Glen (Ester), a sister, Afton (Gary)War, children Steven Jack Clark, Kathleen (Max) Henrie, Marian Annette (Lane) Adams, and Anna Marie Jones, and dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
