Ingela was born to Sven and Barbro Stiernström on November 22, 1962, in Sundsvall, Sweden. She spent her early life in Sörberge (a small town outside of Sundsvall) where she enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with her family, cousins, and family dogs. She spoke fondly of her family trips, cousin sleepovers, and the family kennel of Golden Retrievers.
By 1980, she eventually followed her sister’s example and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a devout member all her life.
She spent the next several years working in various jobs around town (including her father’s mustard factory) and saving money for a trip to the US, while completing her formal education in Child Development. She learned jujitsu and spent a lot of time working out in the gym. She finally made it to the US, becoming an exchange student in Reno, NV for her last year of high school. She eventually returned to Sweden to strengthen her small branch there, serving as a Seminary/Institute teacher, with her sister and other church callings.
But the US was still calling, so she moved to the US to attend BYU, where her and Scott became reacquainted (they originally met when Scott was a missionary in Sweden). After a stint there, she nannied for some friends (Donny Osmond’s Manager), who also lived next door. She often baby sat all their kids; which was ironic as Donny was her teen idol in Sweden. In fact, it was the Osmonds who first introduced her to the Church. Sven, her dad, drove her 4 hours to attend the Osmond Concert at Gröna Lund in Stockholm – always a great memory for her.
After a short dating period, Scott and Ingela were married for Time and all Eternity in the St. George Temple on May 31, 1987. They started their life together in Las Vegas, but soon moved to Utah, so Scott could finish his schooling at BYU.
Ingela loved being outdoors, gardening, cooking, and was known for her determination and work ethic. Most important to her - was her faith and her family. Every day, she made sure to live a Christ centered life, and prioritized time with those she loved. She raised her 5 children with a fierce love; and continued that love to her grandchildren.
On her 32nd birthday, she was struck with cancer and fought valiantly for nearly 30 years; she was a warrior and example, and faced that challenge courageously, but with grace and dignity. The last several months were difficult as the cancer viciously spread and finally won the battle. A special thanks to her doctors and the hospice team and so many that helped her and her family along the way.
At the young age of 60, Ingela departed this life on February 21, 2023, surrounded by her caring husband and adoring children. She was beloved in the many communities she lived in and will be sorely missed by all.
She is survived by her husband Scott, and their five children; Jason, Sarah (Jory Schmidt), Jordon (Ashley), Jay (Katie) and Scotty - as well as her siblings, Kristina (Reijo) Kääriä and Håkan Stiernström and her parents Barbro and Sven Stiernström, many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and thirteen grandchildren
