Hope Rasmussen Prestwich passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2020, from pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on March 20th, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Edward Harris and Juel Callister Rasmussen. She grew up on 5th East in Provo, Utah, and attended Provo High School. Hope was the youngest of eight children.
She married J.R. Roach in 1957. They moved to Orem and had three children together. Hope later married Dean Prestwich on November 11th, 1977. They were later sealed in the Manti Temple. Together, they had two children plus one of her niece’s daughters they helped raise and loved as their own.
Hope was known for her infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She always greeted everyone with a hug and a kiss. She was quick witted and always joking. She worked for eight years as a secretary at Westmore Elementary in Orem, where she was loved by everyone. Hope served as president and manager of Liberty Cloggers for 10 years, which she claimed were some of the best years of her life. This opportunity provided her the chance to accompany her children as they performed across the United States and Canada.
Hope’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren. Her devotion to family was shown through the many hours of service she rendered to them. She always requested more sleepovers than even the grand-children themselves. If any of us were in need, she could be found in the thick of things helping with babies, doing laundry, washing dishes, or making wonderful meals and treats.
Hope also loved visiting, laughing and joking with her extended family. She enjoyed traveling to fun places with them and always remembered those times fondly.
Hope was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings throughout her life. She loved serving with Dean as missionaries at Heber Valley camp and Mia Shalom girls camp for three years.
Hope is survived by her husband, Dean, and her children: Sheila (Steven) Thayne of Orem; Jeff Roach of American Fork; Brooke Baum of Lindon; Tyler (Mos) Prestwich of Minot, North Dakota; and Kati (Shad) Stevens of Heber City; 26 grand-children and 15 great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Brereton; her grandson, Ty Stevens; three sisters, Ella, Gloria and LaVon; and 3 brothers, Mark, Dean, and Dwayne.
