Henry Carlyle Savage Jr. (aka Corky, Hank, Jack McPherson), passed away on June 5, 2016, from complications of a stroke. He was born in Ogden, Utah on January 21, 1937 to Marjorie Hatch and Henry Carlyle Savage and is the oldest of 11 children.
Henry married Ann Louise Roskelley, January 4, 1960 in the Logan, Utah Temple. They are the parents of 8 children: Henry Scott (Cindi), David (Valorie), Brian (Cara), Kent (Jeannine), Diana (John Molinaro), Karl (Julie), John (Kaylene), and Christiann (Paul Griffiths). They have 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Henry served an LDS mission to the Southern States in 1957. In later years he and Ann served as CES missionaries in Boston and as ordinance workers at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. He taught early-morning seminary for almost a decade and served twice as a bishop.
Henry was an avid BYU fan. He loved to run track and excelled at the 880. He held a BYU intramural record for 20 years. Henry was a gifted salesman and became a successful medical device entrepreneur. His professional work continues to provide relief to hundreds of thousands of patients. He was full of love and could make friends with anyone. He always had a clever story or a joke appropriate for any occasion.
His crowning accomplishment was fatherhood. He loved deeply, sacrificed much, and in trial exercised the patience of Job. He delighted to watch the joy of his posterity. By tradition, and as patriarch, he was the first to introduce ice cream to the babies. As they grew he carried them to ball games and to the theater, and at age 12 he gathered the boys for dinner and shepherded them to priesthood. He and Ann spent their livelihood teaching their posterity the gospel of Jesus Christ, and nourishing family bonds during holidays and on wonderful vacations. Their practice was to attend every possible event of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They continue their great labor of love for their family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, son Karl, mother Marjorie, father Henry Carlyle Sr., sister Marjorie Jane, brothers Ralph and Douglas, and step-mother Lois Woolf Savage.
He has gone the way of all the earth, having warred a good warfare and walking uprightly before God.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday June 10, 2016 at the LDS Stake Center 158 E 1100 S, Orem, Utah. Viewings will be Thursday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m., and Friday, June 10 from 9-10:30 a.m., all at the church. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Hills in Provo.
