101 Years Young
Helen Mary Goule Smith, our angel mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday August 11, 2016, at the age of 101. She was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on June 21, 1915 to Harry T. Goule and Hazel Hunter, the oldest of five children.
She later moved to California where she met and married her eternal sweetheart, Harold David Smith on October 7, 1937. They later were sealed as an eternal family in the Salt Lake Temple in 1953. They loved to dance and travel together. Hawaii was one of their favorite places. Her greatest joy was her family. She and Harold were blessed with four beautiful daughters. She was a registered nurse by profession. Some of her jobs included being one of the first nurses at Disneyland, working at Hoag Memorial Hospital, and caring for the Prophet David O McKay.
They raised their family in California, then moved to Utah in 1968, where they managed University Villa Apartments for 10 years. They became second parents to many BYU students. Helen and Harold were loyal BYU fans and had season tickets for football and basketball. They even followed the teams to many away games. Go Cougars!
Helen was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her love for the Savior was evident in the way she lived her life, and she has passed on that love of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all around her.
Helen was a compassionate women who spent her time caring for others. She was a good listener and always knew the right thing to say. Her positive attitude was something that everyone could feel. She always had treats or something cooking when you walked into her house. She spent time knitting and made many gifts for her family and friends.
All who knew her loved her. We feel blessed to have had such a wonderful example to follow. She was the rock of our family and we are so happy that we will see her again.
