Hattie Tolman Stinger age 94, passed peacefully Sunday November 19, 2017, surrounded by her family. Hattie was born August 5, 1923, in Oakley, Cassia County, Idaho. She married Thomas Ross Stinger in the Salt Lake City Temple June 5, 1942. He preceded her in death June 14, 2011. She was the daughter of William Alvin and Hattie Naomi Tolman being the tenth of eleven children all whom have preceded her in death.
Hattie loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She attended the temple on a weekly basis and was an exemplary example of the pure love of Christ and showed it by serving faithfully in ALL of her church callings being a visiting teacher for over 70 years which she perceived as the most important church calling that she could have. She visited the sick, friends, and neighbors in need on a daily basis up to a week before she passed away. Beside her family, Hattie’s most prized possession was her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She also served as Relief Society president, compassionate service and visiting teacher coordinators, as a teacher in many auxiliaries, and other callings.
She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She made hundreds of quilts by hand, receiving awards for her beautiful work. She made hundreds of quilts for humanitarian service and local care centers. She loved the beauties of nature and found joy in God’s simple creations like hummingbirds flying around the bird feeder, the glowing sun kissing Mt. Timpanogos peaks in hues of the rainbow, the changing autumn leaves, and the beautiful flowers so lovingly planted and cared for by her loving husband.
Her love and devotion for her husband was a number one priority. She was an angel on earth and loved and adored by everyone that she came in contact with.
Hattie is survived by six children: Lynda Ayres of Boise, Idaho; Steven and Sandy Stinger of Lemoore, California; Dennis and Lori Stinger of Orem, Utah; Darlene and Tod Goodall of West Richland, Washington; Pineau and Dave Nielsen of Helper, Utah; Cindee Bahr of Payson, Utah; 24 grandchildren, 67 great-great grandchildren, and four great-great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Hillcrest 4th Ward Chapel located at 440 East 800 South, Orem, Utah. A viewing for friends and family will held Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah, and Saturday morning at the church 9:30 -10:30 a.m. just prior to the service.
