Harold Johnson Hawkins, age 81 of Centerville/Orem passed away September 29, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Harold lived a great life and will be greatly missed by his dear wife, children, grandchildren, and friends! He was born April 3, 1935 in Davenport, Iowa, a son of Karl and Josephine Hawkins. He married LaRae Kirk July 3, 1959 and later in life married Larene Ostlund on April 22, 2005. Harold retired from Hunts Foods after working in sales for over 30 years. He was a member of the ski patrol at Timp Haven/Sundance resort. Harold was a passionate hunter and enjoyed fishing on the Provo River and Strawberry Reservoir. His greatest passion was building and working on his cabins in American Fork and Fairview. He loved the mountains and would rather be in the mountains than any place else. His love for the outdoors was contagious and the family loved to spend time together at the cabin working, cutting wood, looking for animals, watching sunsets and hummingbirds, and just hanging out with him. Harold was extremely industrious and a very hard worker. He loved to help people whether it was shoveling snow or helping a stranger on the side of the road. He played football and basketball at BYU and was an avid BYU fan. Harold served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army.
Harold is survived by his wife Larene of Centerville; his children Anne (Doug) Liechty of Orem, Kim (Greg) Scott and Lynne (Richard) Glassford both of Lindon. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. His sisters Myrtle (Smitty) Smith, Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Smith, Charlotte England, Arlene (Ron) Oakey, Helen (Dirk) Mellen. He was preceded in death by his first wife LaRae Kirk Hawkins, siblings; George Hawkins, Karl Johnson Hawkins, Jr. and Dorothy Bee Schofield.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Church located at 1298 North 400 West, Centerville, Utah. A visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem and also Monday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the funeral services at the ward chapel. Interment will be held at the Centerville City Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.SundbergOlpinMortuary.com
