Gilbert M. Jensen, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dear friend to many, passed away peacefully at his home in Orem, Utah, on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the age of 94.
Gil is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Jensen of Orem, Utah; Peggy (Ron) Reimschussel of Riverdale, Utah; Barb (Gary) Yost of Sandy, Utah; Susan (Leo) Hodson Lipsie of Cedar City, Utah; and Tammy Jensen of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Adele Johnson, parents, siblings, two sons-in-law, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Gilbert was born on July 18, 1923, in Centerfield, Utah, to Andrew and Karoline Peterson Jensen. He graduated from Provo High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Navy December 9, 1942, earned his wings and was commissioned on July 4, 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, Adele Johnson later that same day in Corpus Christie, Texas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on January 9, 1946. The couple eventually settled in Orem, Utah, where they raised their five daughters and were actively involved in church and community affairs.
Gilbert was a successful businessman with Utah Valley Builders Supply, IHC, and as an independent contractor. He served as President of Orem City Chamber of Commerce, Orem City Lions Club, and Utah Valley Knife and Fork Dinner Club, as well as numerous terms on Orem City's Planning Commission. He was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions including Bishop, and Stake High Councilman. He was known for his strength of character, his kindness, understanding, and his ability to care for others. Gilbert always served with a willing heart; there was no calling too great or too small.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the LDS Sharon Park Chapel (the old 1st and 24th ward chapel) located at 225 East 200 North in Orem, Utah. Family and friends are invited to visit with Gil's immediate family for 45 minutes prior to the 12:00 service. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Brighton Hospice and Visiting Angels for their loving attention and dedicated care.
Funeral arrangements are provided by Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 State Street in Orem, Utah. Burial and internment will be at Provo City Cemetery immediately following the service.
