Geraldine Brady Lystrup Davis, 93, of Orem, Utah, attended a heavenly reunion when she peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, with her three daughters and a granddaughter by her side. Gerrie was born on June 3, 1931, to Elvas Lionel “Bud” Brady and Hazelle D. Knowles in Newman, California, but moved to the Ogden, Utah area when she was quite young and she claims Ogden as her “home”. Most of her young life was in “Bradyville, Utah” which she spoke of with fond memories. She graduated from Ogden High School and worked in the Hostess Bakery as a teenager.
While attending a family reunion, Gerrie met Elwood Dawson Lystrup (who preceded her in death) and they dated a short time before marrying on October 28, 1950, in Pocatello, Idaho in his family home. She and Elwood were sealed a year later in the Logan, Utah Temple. Gerrie was 19 and Elwood was 32 when they married and were together for 48 years before he passed away in 1999. They lived mostly in Orange County, California for all the years that they raised their 5 children. Their first baby, Karen L., passed away on the day she was born, August 17, 1951. Gerrie mostly stayed home to be with her children and was an amazing mother and a wonderful homemaker. She went to work at Sears & Roebuck in Buena Park, California, and later got a job at Lindberg Nutrition store in Costa Mesa, Ca.
Gerrie married Walter Jr. Davis on July 12, 2000, and lived happily with him for almost 24 years until he passed away on July 6, 2024.
Gerrie was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life. She raised her children to love this country and the Church. In addition to many other callings, Gerrie served as the Ward and Stake Jr. Sunday School Coordinator, RS President, early-morning Seminary Teacher, YW Counselor, Camp Director, Stake Sports Director all of which she magnified and served faithfully. Gerrie was a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) for over twelve years and served as Company Food committee chairperson for five years, Camp Librarian and scrapbook keeper for four years, and as Captain of the local camp for two years. She cultivated a deep love for genealogy, and served as a part time service missionary in the Family History Centers in the Orem/Provo area. She was a loyal friend, sister, aunt, and grandmother, but loved her role as Mother most of all.
Gerrie loved learning and faithfully studied her scriptures, piano, guitar, participated in Church choirs and a cappella choir with her beautiful alto voice. Always very sports-minded, she loved playing softball and coached her girls’ softball teams for many years. Some of her interests included doll making and doll repair, sewing machine embroidery, punch embroidery, dressmaking, cake decorating, chocolate and candy making, and the best yeast donuts ever. She won 1st prize for her chili and for Lemon Meringue Pie. She crocheted an afghan for each of her grandchildren as they graduated from high school. Mom taught her children to cook, sew, study, learn new hobbies, love family, genealogy, sports and especially to love the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Gerrie is survived by four children, Thomas Lystrup (Shanna), LynnEl Springer (Andrew), Cheryl Johansen (Kim), and Patricia Knowlton (whose husband Horace “Bud” passed in 2022), 20 grandchildren, and 59 great grandchildren.
In addition to those mentioned above, Gerrie was preceded in death by her son, Michael R. Lystrup (October 28, 2022), a brother and sister, and a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Catheryn Springer Roundy and Steven L. Roundy.
