Gerald Cooper

December 25, 1933 — February 28, 2017

Gerald Romaine Cooper, aka “Coop”, 83, of Springville, Utah, died February 28, 2017. He was born on Christmas Day in 1933 to Esther Sunderland Cooper and Otis Cooper in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He married Connie Jo Cooper of Pleasant Grove, Utah, February 23, 1963.  He grew up in Lynwood, California, and attended Compton Junior College after High School. Gerry played professional baseball for four years: three years in the Cardinal Organization and one with the Cubs. In 1973, he won a World Championship in fast pitch softball with the Lakewood Jets. He loved nothing more than to coach his three sons in baseball. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and cherished the time he spent serving in a BYU bishopric.

Gerry is survived by his wife Connie; four children: Deborah Lee Ann Cooper, Gary (April) Cooper, Chris (Kristin) Cooper, Stephen (Lauren) Cooper; 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 State Street, Orem, Utah. Viewings will be held at the mortuary Friday, March 3rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning just prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The interment will take place follow the funeral at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support given to our family at this time.
