Gayla Fuhriman Green passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 12, 2017. She was born on August 3, 1928, in Providence, Utah, to Newel Lavon Fuhriman and Mamie Marguerite Johnson.
She attended South Cache High School and L.D.S. Business College before her call to serve in the North Central States Mission. Upon returning from missionary service, she earned her degree in Elementary Education from Utah State. She later completed a master's degree in Instructional Science.
On April 9, 1952 Gayla married Marvin Green in the Logan Temple. Marvin was assigned to Germany as an Army chaplain and it was there that the couple began their life together, and where their first two children were born. Marvin and Gayla eventually settled in Utah County where they raised their seven children and served together in a variety of church and community roles until Marvin’s death in 1998.
Gayla was a gifted homemaker. Her hands were always busy with crocheting, sewing, quilting, and needlework. She was talented in the kitchen-- making bread, candy, and canning fruit. She was a beautiful pianist-- happy to lift others' spirits through music. Mostly, Gayla loved her family, a devotion that reached back many generations. She was an expert genealogist and cherished her research trips to Europe and throughout the United States. For over 60 years, she dedicated much of her time to family history research which blessed the lives of thousands to receive temple blessings.
Having a cheery disposition came easily for Gayla. Her motto was, "Always Be Happy." She had an outgoing and friendly personality and made everyone feel loved. Regardless of the physical limitations she endured, laughing, smiling and loving were always communicated well. Gayla will be remembered for her steadfast faith, abundant hope and cheerful charity.
She was preceded in death by Marvin, children Karen Bascom, Newell Green, and three grandchildren, and is survived by her children Alesa Curtis (Mark), Kent Bascom (Son-in-law), Bryce Green (Karla), Dwight Green (Amy), Gaylamarie Rosenberg (John) and Maylarie Ostler (Robert), 29 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and by her sisters Mary F. Griffin and Rhonda F. Farnsworth.
On Saturday, March 18 family and friends will join together to celebrate her life. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Sharon Park First Ward Chapel, 100 East 300 North, Orem, Utah. Those who wish to greet the family may do so on Friday, March 17 at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary 495 South State, Orem Utah, from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 18 at 11:30-12:30 prior to the funeral services.
