Gary Long

May 21, 1946 — November 17, 2014

Gary Kay Long, 68, of Santaquin, died peacefully with his family by his side on November 17, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with a rare muscle disease. Gary was born on May 21, 1946 to Wesley M. Long and RaNee Nielson Long. He grew up in the Orem area and attended Pleasant Grove HS. Immediately following High School he joined the US Army and served in Germany as a Tank Mechanic. He was later honorably discharged to return to help on his family farm. He worked for Geneva Steel for over 30 years. Soon after, he married and had 3 children, Shauna Kay Korologos (Chris), Curtis Jay Long (Kellirae) and Jan Marie Long. All through his life, he loved to hunt and fish and ride his Harley. He also had a special love for his dogs. He built a cabin with his son in the early 90's and enjoyed as much time as possible there with family and friends. The cabin was his pride and joy. Gary was one of the most accepting men, willing to help anyone and raised his family to understand these values. His cup overflowed with generosity, sincerity and love. These values were instilled by his mother RaNee. Gary never ended a conversation without letting you know he loved you. He is survived by his children and 3 granddaughters Riley, Lauren and Malory. He also had many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Randy Long and Drew Long of Sandy, UT and his 3 sisters, Brenda Long of Salt Lake City, Tonia Anderson of Lindon and Pam DeMita of Sandy. He was preceded in Death by his Parents, and his 2 younger brothers Wesley Long and Rick Long. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary at 495 S. State Street in Orem.
