Fern Nelson

June 18, 1933 — March 7, 2016

Fern Savage Nelson was born on June 18, 1933 in Richfield, UT to parents Alma Savage, Jr. and Ethel Thompson Savage. Fern was raised on a working ranch in Antimony,UT. When Fern was 5 years old, her mother passed away from complications in child birth. She grew up surrounded by loving brothers, sisters, aunts and her father. Fern graduated from Piute High School in 1951. She attended Dixie College and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Occupational Training. After college, she moved to Salt Lake City and worked at Walker Bank and lived in the historic Beehive House that, at that time, was used as a boarding house for young women. Fern lived there with roommates who loved her dearly and with whom she remained life-long friends. She was often greeted by name by president David O. McKay as she walked to work past the LDS Administration Building. She married Dale Nelson on June 27, 1958 in the Manti Temple. Fern and Dale raised two sons, Konrad and Brad. She supported her husband faithfully all the days of their life together. Compassion was her great gift and hallmark. She worked for 35 years as a Nursing Assistant and was awarded Utah CNA of The Year by Governor Norm Bangerter in 2000. She gave so much to so many people. She is survived by her son, Brad (Daphne), and her beloved grandchildren; Amanda, Camille, McKay, and Rebecca. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday March 9th at the LDS chapel at 1020 South 1100 West Provo, UT with a viewing from 9:00 to 9:45am. An additional viewing will held at Sundberg Olpin Mortuary on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm.
