Efrain Escamilla

December 3, 1965 — January 5, 2015

Efrain Josue Escamilla, 49, son of Maria Elena Escamilla and Sem Escamilla Carbajal, died after a long battle with cancer on January 5, 2015. Efrain was born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 3, 1965. He attended Orem High School and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Utah. Efrain was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he often bore strong testimony of the principles of church and relished in teaching opportunities. Youth and adults alike looked to Efrain's example of character, motivation and perseverance. Efrain was a natural athlete, loved to travel, watch football, play golf, woodwork or anything else he could do with his hands. There was nothing he couldn't make or figure out, from woodwork to anything in the kitchen. Efrain also loved to coach and was a tender son and attentive husband and father. He was a great handyman to have around the house. Efrain's favorite medicine was chocolate cake, a habit he passed down to his children. His family affectionately called him Superman! Predeceased by his father, Sem Escamilla Carbajal and his brother, Mahonri Escamilla, Efrain is survived by his beloved wife, Claudia Liliana Escamilla Albanes of Herriman, Utah; his mother, Maria Elena Escamilla of Orem, Utah; sons Efrain Joshua Escamilla of Orem, Utah; Jared Aaron Escamilla of Provo, Utah and Tito Escamilla (his beloved Shitzu); daughters Ambria Escamilla Johnson (Sean) of Sandy, Utah; Kamberli Escamilla Leatherwood (Marcus) of Ogden, Utah; Gabriela Liliana Escamilla of Herriman, Utah; two brothers, Elias Escamilla (Michelle) of Sandy, Utah; Dennis Escamilla of Orem, Utah; five sisters, Noemi Escamilla of Bellevue, Washington; Maria Berenice Escamilla of DF Mexico; Maria Elena Hunsaker (Lee) of San Rafael, California; Cindy Swallow (Bruce) of Johnston, Iowa; and Penny Escamilla of Sandy, Utah. Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. No viewing is scheduled. Instead, a celebration of Efrain's life in the form of a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7079 Rose Canyon Road, Herriman, UT at 11:00 am. Bishop Dave Price will conduct the services. Private graveside services will be held at a future date at Orem Cemetery; 1520 North 800 East; Orem, Utah.
