Edith Walker

March 24, 1922 — August 28, 2014

On Sunday August 24th 2014 our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Edith LaRue Powell Walker, age 92, passed away peacefully from conditions incident to age. Edith was born March 24, 1922 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada to Shirlef Powell and Florence Reece Powell. She was the second child born to the family of seven children. When she was 13 years of age, the family moved from Canada to Utah where she has lived for the remainder of her life, returning many times to visit her beloved Canada. She obtained her U.S. Citizenship. Edith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings within the Relief Society organization including counselor, president, cultural refinement teacher and visiting teacher. She married Bernard Walker on March 27, 1942. Following WW2 the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1945. They made their home in Orem, Utah where they owned the Walker Produce family business for many years which was recognized as the longest running business in Utah County at that time. Starting at an early age, Edith loved doing genealogy throughout her life, and while doing so, she had many faith promoting experiences that helped her to know that our loved ones that have gone before us are never far from us. Among Edith's many talents was her ability to make lifelong friends wherever she went. She always helped those in need, giving assistance in any way possible. Many people over the years have been recipients of lovely decorated fruit baskets as well as many other acts of kindness. She will be greatly missed. Edith also loved creating artistic renditions and was well known for her beautiful calligraphy. She is survived by her six children, Lynn (Carolyn), Kay (Maria), Terry (Cathy), Judy (Jerry:deceased), Tony (Kim) and Troy (Lisa) plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters-LaRena (Kelley:deceased) Giles and Ila (Brian) Webb, and three brothers, Lorne (Lois) Powell, Dean (Della Rae:deceased) Powell and Eugene (Linda) Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter (Patricia) and infant son (Garn), one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, her parents, one brother-Shirlef Powell, two sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00a.m. at the Sunset Hills 1st ward 949 North 540 West in American Fork. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 6-8p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah and on Wednesday prior to services from 9:00-9:45a.m. at the LDS church building.
