Eddis Fidel

May 23, 1927 — September 24, 2014

Eddis May Johnson Fidel, 87, returned to her Father in Heaven Wednesday, Sept.24, 2014 after dying of conditions incident to age. Eddis was born May 23, 1927 in McCornick, Utah, the daughter of Jean Stephenson and Evan Johnson and had three siblings, Blanche, Bill and Carole. She graduated from Delta High School and then met Chad Joseph Fidel, the serviceman she had been assigned to write letters to during World War II. They married Sept. 20, 1945 with their vows later solemnized for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Eddis made friends everywhere she lived and was given the Good Neighbor Award while she and Chad lived in North Platte, Nebraska. She loved to entertain, loved the arts and music, and always had an upbeat view of life and the world around her. Everyone who visited her home left with some kind of gift. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Relief Society president, stake and service missionary and temple worker. She exemplified the Savior's command to love others. A decade after Chad died in 1998, Eddis married high-school friend Larry Noel Clark. Larry died in 2009. In addition to the members of Larry's family that she knew briefly, Eddis is survived by her sister Carole; daughter Saundra; sons Jay (wife Sandy) and Steven (wife Melia); 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State, Orem. Friends may call from 9-9:45 a.m. Interment will follow at the Utah State Veterans Memorial Park.
