E. Farr Hatch passed away peacefully in his home February 20, 2016. He was 89. Farr was born September 23, 1926 in Orem, UT to Elmer Webb and Tressa Farr Hatch. His childhood was spent between Woodruff, and Mesa Arizona and Payson and Provo Utah. At the age of 17, during World War II he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in August of 1948 as a Boatswain's Mate G Third Class where he had served on LSM 289. In 1949 he was called to serve in the Southern States Mission. Upon completion of an honorable mission he met his sweetheart, Frances Peterson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 13, 1953. After receiving a Bachelors degree in Secondary Education from Brigham Young University, Farr taught Utah History, Careers and Girls Health at Lincoln Junior High in Orem. He continued his education and received a Masters degree in Counseling and Psychology from BYU. He spent the rest of his educational career as a School Counselor at Orem Junior High and Canyon View Junior High. He was a member of the AEA, UEA and NEA and served on the Governors Committee for the Deaf and Blind school. He was a member of the Orem Golden "K" Kiwanis club serving as club Treasurer, President and Lieutenant Governor. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including Bishop, High Counselor, Branch President and Temple worker. He and Frances served as CES missionaries for 3 years at the Orem High Seminary. He enjoyed traveling to the various national parks in Utah and fishing the green river in Wyoming. His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances, Children Cyndi, Scott (Jennifer) and Julie all of Orem and his grandchildren, Brandon (Stacia), Kiley, Spencer, and Baylee who all adored their "Papa" and adopted grandsons J.D. Barton and Michael Bronson, and siblings Geraldine Rigby, Ervin Larry Hatch (Mignon) and Richard Hatch (Leslie) and several nieces and nephews who loved their "Uncle Farr". He was preceded in death by his parents. We would like to thank Orem Rehab and Skilled Nursing and Summit Hospice for the tender care they gave our dad. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Stake Center, 1450 South 800 East, Orem. Friends may visit with family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State Street, Orem and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery 4800 North 650 East, Provo.
