Dwaine Wendell Hales passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home in Provo, Utah. He was born on April 14, 1931, in Provo to Lloyd Stanley Hales and Eliza Ann Rodeback Hales. He married Chloe Elaine Jenkins on April 3, 1953.
He grew up in Provo. At age 19, he joined the Marines. Just before he was scheduled to be deployed, he contracted rheumatic fever. After months of recovery in a military hospital, he was medically discharged.
He worked for years as a salesman for a tire company, servicing large industrial trucks and heavy equipment. He then went to work for Provo City Power as foreman of the utility crew. He could drive and operate all kinds of heavy equipment. He worked there until his retirement.
He and Chloe spent much time exploring the country of southern Utah in their dune buggy. After retirement, they would spend the winters in Yuma, AZ.
He also loved working in his yard and garden, which he did until the day that he passed.
Dwaine was an excellent father and grandfather. He loved his family dearly and they returned that love to him. He had a kind heart and loved animals.
Dwaine is survived by Chloe his wife of 71 years, daughter Kathy (Richard) Johnson of Spanish Fork, son Larry (Laura) Hales of Pleasant Grove, and daughter Debra (Jimmy) Moore of Logan. And 11 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren with more to come.
In keeping with Dwaine’s wishes, a private family memorial will be held in his honor at a future date.
