Douglas H McMullin

February 28, 1929 — October 1, 2024

Orem

Douglas Hales McMullin, 95 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family. Doug was born to parents Brigham Clair and Ruby Jane McMullin in his beloved hometown of Beaver, Utah on February 28, 1929.

After his father’s death, he was raised by his mother and two aunts, Annabelle and Elsie Hales. He graduated from Beaver High School where he was on the basketball and tennis teams. He was an accomplished trombone player and was in the high school band.

After graduation Doug attended BYU where he was a member of the Concert Band and Marching Band. He played the trombone throughout his college days, including in a traveling dance band. In 1950, he joined the Beaver Army National Guard 213th Brigade and was deployed to Korea in January of 1951. His Unit received the Presidential Citation of Valor in the fall of 1951.

Doug returned to BYU in 1952 and met the love of his life and married Barbara Miller on July 30, 1953. After graduation Doug and Barbara moved to Salt Lake to begin a career with JCPenney. In 1971 they moved to Orem where they have lived for 53 years. He spent most of his career with Movitz and Vranizon Companies and worked until he was 87 years old; he both loved and excelled at his job as a traveling jewelry salesman.

Doug and Barbara were married for 71 years and had six children. Besides his family his loves were: golf, fly fishing, watching football and above all else playing pool! The owner of a local pool hall once said Doug was, “not just great, but possibly the best in the West.” In his latter years some of his happiest days were spent on the golf course.

Doug had an amazing sense of humor that will be so missed by all. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved and adored his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was extremely supportive and took great pride in all of their accomplishments.

Doug leaves behind his sweetheart Barbara, children: Bill (LeeAnne) McMullin, John (Diane) McMullin, Rick (Tina) McMullin, LeeAnn Strong, Chris McMullin, Jeff (Lynette) McMullin, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and wonderful friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Symbii Home Heath and Hospice.
