Dorothy Porter Hanks

Dorothy Louise Anderson Porter Hanks passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022.  She was born March 29, 1931, in Cordova, Alaska to Carl Louis Anderson and Gertie Youngedyk.  The oldest of 3 daughters born to Carl and Gertie.  She married G. Wayne Porter in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on November 20, 1951.

She grew up in the Tacoma/Seattle area where her large extended family lived.  She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully in many positions on both the Ward and Stake level.

She had the kind of personality that would draw people to her where ever she went.  Being married to a career Army husband, they lived in many places throughout the United States, she had many opportunities to make new friends and truly life-long friends.

After Wayne passed away in 2005, she married Richard Hanks on Dec. 8, 2007, in Mesa Arizona where she stayed until Richard’s passing on July 30, 2021.  She moved to Draper, Utah in December of 2021 to be closer to her children that she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by husbands Wayne and Richard a sister Margie, her parents and a son Dana, a son-in-law, Bruce Deeben and 2 great-grandchildren.  She is survived by a sister, Marian in Texas, children Marjean Deeben of Orem, Utah Robert (Ann) of Sandy, Utah, Carren (Kevin) Mines of Lafayette, Colorado, Michael (Janel) of Highlands Ranch. Colorado, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren

A viewing will take place at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary on May 2 at 10:30 AM followed by a short graveside service at the Orem City Cemetery at 11:15 AM that will be streamed live.

The family would like to thank her many friends and especially the wonderful nurses and staff at The Ashford in Draper, and her special friend Allison at Inspiration Hospice for the kind and gentle care of our mother.
