Donald Hatch

May 6, 1926 — July 11, 2017

Our sweet Dad passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017, in his home. Donald Lee Hatch was born May 6, 1926, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Paxman and Lettie Hatch. He grew up in Provo, Utah, during the great depression, which taught him the value of hard work and frugality. It was his love of the gospel that carried him through the hardest times of his life, which included losing his father at young age. After which, he began to help provide for his family. He was a devoted lifelong member of the LDS Church and had a deep testimony which he loved to share with all he could.

At age 17 while still in high school, he joined the Navy during WWII fighting in the Pacific as a Gunners Mate. On August 10, 1949, he married the love of his life Lois Nelson Hatch in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised 10 children in the house he built in Orem where they shared 67 happy years together.

He worked in construction and loved building houses. He continued to work with wood as a hobby right to the end. Among his many years of church service, it was serving as Scout Master that brought him great happiness and he was able to share his love of camping, fishing, hiking and all things outdoors.

Don loved everyone and was much loved in return. He had the most tender loving heart and was a wonderful brother, dad, grandpa and husband.

He is survived by seven of his ten children and by his sister Mary. His children are: Dee Ann Keller, JP Hatch, Kaylin Conant, Karla (Clyde) Robins, Laren Hatch (deceased), Jace Hatch, Deven Hatch (deceased), Lloyd Jay Hatch (deceased), Rachel (Terry) Degmetich and Erin Leishman. Also by his 26 grandchildren 32 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the LDS Chapel which Don helped to build on 575 South and 400 West in Orem. A viewing will be held Friday, July 14, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street in Orem. There will be no viewing on Saturday, prior to the funeral services. Burial will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
