Don Ray Hall, 86, of Orem, passed away quietly on Monday evening, October 2, 2023. He and his twin brother were born on October 11, 1936, in Ibapah, Utah, to Earl Lenard Hall and Lillian Afton Symonds Hall. Don married Shirley Gerd Leland on September 1, 1968, in Elko, Nevada. Shirley, his third wife, preceded him in death on October 27, 2010. Don was sealed to Shirley, posthumously on May 2, 2014 in the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple
Don graduated from Grantsville High School, on May 25, 1956. Don served in two different branches of the military. In 1957 he joined the Army, where he was an MP. Later, in 1964, to finish out his 4 years, he joined the Navy, where he worked on planes and helicopters. Don worked at the Pot Ash Plant outside of Wendover, from which he retired. There he learned to be an electrician, he said that he also drove some of their big machinery, or whatever else they needed done. Don was a volunteer Firefighter in Wendover for over 20 years. He was very proud of his service there! Don loved fishing, and riding motorcycles. Even when he was bound to a wheelchair he would still talk about getting a bike and going for a drive. Don was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Don is survived by nephews and nieces; Ken Hales, Marvin Hales, Daylene Stroebe-Cantwell, Tonya Young, Kevin Shepherd, Gerry Shepherd, Lorri Waechtler. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Orvin Shepherd. Also possibly by two sons: Ron Hall, April 10,1968, and Gayle?
Don was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Dale Hall, Ruby Hales Monjar, Doris Shepherd, his wife, one twin son, and a nephew, Randall Shepherd.
There will be a short viewing Saturday, October 7, 2023, between 9:00 -10:00 am, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S State St, Orem, Utah. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm at the Wendover City Cemetery, 505 Wendover Blvd, Wendover, Ut 84083. There will be military rites. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to a Firefighters fund near you! A special THANK YOU goes out to all of the wonderful caregivers that worked with and loved Don thru his last few years!
