Diane Ellsworth Gourdin of Orem, Utah, slipped peacefully out of this world on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at age 82. Diane was the beloved wife of Melvin Gourdin, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Diane was an amazing woman, the life of the party, and the elect of God. We will truly miss her and look forward to a joyful reunion in the future.
Diane was born on September 7, 1935, in Safford, Arizona, to William Lesley and Trella Scarlet Ellsworth. She grew up on the Ellsworth family ranch, graduating from Safford High. After attending Eastern Arizona JC for one year, she headed to BYU in 1954, where she met Mel Gourdin. They were married on September 9, 1955, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Mel joined the military and the couple spent the next 30 years living all over the country. They retired to Orem, where Mel had a second career and the couple served three missions. They had recently moved to St. George.
In addition to Melvin, her husband of 62 years, Diane is survived by four children: Robert (Cindy), Leslie (Ken), Paul (Joanne), and Sarah (Greg); two sisters: Carol and Jean (Mary Alice, predeceased); 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
