Dennis Torrens

November 17, 1964 — April 20, 2023

Orem, Utah

Dennis Eugene Torrens was born in Campbell, California on November 17, 1964, to Douglas Eugene and LaRita Mae Wilson Torrens and passed away on April 20, 2023, in Orem, Utah at the age of 58. He graduated from Sahuaro High School in 1983 and then served a mission to Portland, Oregon for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon returning, in 1987 he married Ann Marie Kallunki, they later divorced and in 2001 he married Peggy Monson.

Dennis proudly served in the United States Army for 10 years and was deployed during Desert Storm. He was very patriotic and had strong feelings about the freedoms we enjoy in this country. He appreciated it when others thanked him for serving his country. He was a diesel mechanic in the army and after he was honorably discharged, he worked as a diesel mechanic. However, he got tired of smelling like grease and having grease under his fingernails, so he went to school at Utah Valley University using the GI Bill. He graduated from the Culinary Arts Program as a chef. He opened the restaurant, The Arbor, with his family. He then worked at Brigham Young University as The Sky Room Chef and later in food production. He was a kitchen manager at Provo Canyon School and most recently a Student Life Mentor with the boys there. The boys loved and respected Dennis and looked to him as a father figure, which many had not experienced before.

From a young age he liked to dress very nicely. Everything had to match or coordinate, including socks, shoes (which he had stacked from floor to ceiling, six pairs to a layer) and watchbands. Before he went to bed, he would always get his clothes ready for the next day. He was a cowboy at heart and was happiest in a freshly pressed and creased pair of Wrangler or Ariat jeans, a long-sleeved Ariat shirt, belt with a fancy buckle and a comfortable pair of cowboy boots.

He was artistic and enjoyed working with his hands. He helped his children with school art projects. He recently purchased woodworking equipment and planned to build a workshop and make furniture. He enjoyed camping with his family and had many memories of those fun times together. He loved his family, his Irish heritage, going to rodeos, fishing, the Kansas City Chiefs, BYU football and history. He even considered going back to school to become a history teacher. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Survived by his wife, Peggy, his four children, Ciara (Bruce) Adams, Haeden (Codie) Torrens, Miranda Torrens (Kyle Ehlers), Jace (Charice) Torrens, his adored grandchildren Chloe Torrens and Finnegan Adams and his beloved plott hound, Boone. His mother LaRita Torrens, sisters, Jody (Charlie) Basham, Teresa Torrens, Ronda (James) Worden. Preceded in death by his father Douglas and brother Darin.
