DeLeen Shaw Bridges, 98, passed from this life on Jan. 10, 2019 in Provo, Utah. She was born June 25, 1920 to Abraham Joseph Shaw and Sarah Lenora Crosland in Vermillion, Utah. She was fifth of eight children. Her younger sisters, Norma and Lena, were her best friends. Raised in Aurora, she graduated from Richfield High School.
DeLeen married Albert Bridges Oct. 3, 1938 in Junction, Utah. The couple began married life in Sevier County and later moved to the Wasatch Front to find work. In August 1947, they bought a home in Lakeview and raised their five children on the Sandhill Road. They were sealed in Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 23, 1952.
DeLeen enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She taught her family to work hard, serve others and appreciate the outdoors. She created beautiful handiwork and shared from her garden. DeLeen often worked outside the home and retired from the Utah Development Center in America Fork.
Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, DeLeen served in the women and youth auxiliaries giving many years to Scouting. She served a mission at the Washington D.C. Temple and worked in both the Provo and Mount Timpanogos temples. Proud of her pioneer heritage DeLeen spent nearly 60 years with Daughters of Utah Pioneers in leadership roles, writing personal histories and giving oral presentations.
DeLeen and Abe loved camping with their family and later with the Good Sams. They travelled to all 50 states and 14 foreign countries. She was a sharp card player, voracious reader and loved watching movies.
DeLeen is survived by her children: Gayla (John, deceased) Colby of Riverton, Gary (Linda) Bridges of Provo, Scot (Ora) Bridges of Grantsville, Margie (Patrick) Paul of Orem; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Proceeded in death by her husband Albert, son Joseph and granddaughter Pamela Dillenbeck.
Funeral services at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at the Lakeview Second Ward, 400 West 1800 South, Orem, Utah, with viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Interment at Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah. Condolences may be expressed to the family on this page.
