David Allen Whittaker (fatty), passed away peacefully Sunday morning. Due to a skiing accident in 1984 Dave lived in a care center for many years, trapped in a body and mind that would not let him live a normal life. His family has long waited for the day he could leave his broken body & injured brain behind and be free. After the decision was made to let him go we all felt relief for him. Although we struggled with the thought of losing another loved one, we all felt like we were setting a caged bird free to finally spread its wings and feel the wind of freedom. His laugh and crazy stories will be missed. His mom has long awaited to hug and kiss the boy she once knew. David was born in Pomona, CA, January 14, 1961 to Donald & Jean Whittaker. He moved to Orem in 1972 where he graduated from Orem High in 1979, then went on to Dixie College to play football. Then graduated from Utah Tech in welding. Dave was an avid hunter and loved all sports, especially football. David is survived by his son Brandon (Kami) Paul, and grandsons Brodee David and Ryler Don of Payson, UT, his siblings Cathy (Keith) Collard of Saratoga Springs, UT, Cindy (Jeff) Helgeson of Annapolis, MD, Brian (Suzann) Whittaker of Spanish Fork, UT, nephews and nieces, Carl Clements of Lehi, Cherish Oman of Santaquin, Jake Collard of Saratoga Springs, Lauren, Anna & Matthew Helgeson of Annapolis, MD. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Mark, his loving parents Donald Whittaker and Jean Whittaker, who devoted many long years to his care. David's family would like to express our appreciation to the staff at Trinity Mission Health and Welfare of Provo. He has made many friends there. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 9:45 at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
