David White

May 21, 1944 — March 5, 2023

Orem, UT

On Sunday, March 5, 2023, just shy of his 79th birthday, David Elmo White completed his mortal mission and ran rejoicing into the gates of heaven. He is now our eternal cowboy, watching from afar, keeping his vigil over those he loved.

He was born in Moab, Utah on May 21, 1944, to George and Frances White. He was raised with five loving siblings in La Sal, Utah and learned early the value of work as a ranch hand. A strong work ethic served him well throughout his life. David attended college at Utah State University before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission. The highlight of his mission was serving at the World Fair in the Mormon Pavillion.

Upon returning he attended Brigham Young University where he met his angel wife, Jeannine Van Dyke. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1966, and were looking forward to celebrating their 57th anniversary. David graduated from BYU in accounting and received his CPA certification. He worked for Arthur Anderson in California, Gardner, Squire, and Gilbert in Provo, and the LDS Church in Salt Lake City. After working as a CPA, he earned his Master’s degree in public administration in 1985. In his later years he excelled in real estate.

After his retirement, he and his wife served four missions together for the LDS church and served in the Provo, Utah MTC for three years. David served twice as a bishop at BYU, and as a counselor in his home ward. He enjoyed landscaping and was recognized by Orem City for his beautiful yard. Not one to sit still, David always had a home or yard improvement project in the works. He also found joy in hosting family and friends at his home, always serving BYU mint brownies for dessert. David was an avid BYU athletics fan and bled blue. Most importantly, David strived to serve his family and neighbors and had a deep love for his Savior.

David is survived by his loving wife and his five children: Stephanie (Andy) Jensen, Julie (Rob) Terry, Larry (Melissa) White, Jenny (Robert) Gardner, and Kevin (Aryn) White. He is the proud grandfather to 19 and great-grandfather to six. He has five living siblings, Merald White, Vinnie Harker, Jon White, Jeff White, and Jim White who continually blessed his life.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 18th at 11:00 am at his LDS church located at 365 South 900 East in Orem, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am at the same location. The burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Millcreek, Utah.
