David Schaalje

David Shane Schaalje was born in Provo, Utah on November 23, 1977 to Bruce and Lois Schaalje. He served a mission in the Czech Republic where he loved the people and their language. Shane was married on April 24, 1999 to Alma Selk in the Provo Temple.

Shane graduated from College with his RN BSN after which he went on to work in many different disciplines of nursing. He especially loved working with hospice patients and was a compassionate and sensitive caregiver. Shane loved to make his patients laugh and would often tell them they were lucky to have such a handsome nurse.

Shane was blessed with seven beautiful children, Mckay (16), Brynn (14), Brigham (11), Benson (7), Macie & Miriam (4), each of whom he loved deeply. Shane's youngest child, Owen, was born on June 30, 2016. Although Shane didn't have much time with Owen, we are so glad he is here to comfort and bring joy during this difficult time. Shane was a loving and patient father who, above all else, wanted his children to learn to be kind. Shane and his wife were best friends and loved to be together with their children.

Shane fought a long battle with depression and substance abuse which led to his early departure from this life. His loving family knows he is free from the confines of his physical body and is now at peace.

Shane is survived by, and will be deeply missed by his wife and children, his parents, Bruce and Lois Schaalje, his siblings, Jared, Kim, John, and their families, and youngest sister, Chessie. We appreciate the outpouring of love, support and service that has been given to our family at this time. In lieu of flowers please contact family to give donations for funeral costs.
