David Paul Huish, 68, of Orem, UT passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 7, 2023.
Paul was born October 12, 1954 in Douglas, AZ to Jack LaMar and Karma Andersen Huish. He was the 4th of seven children. He lived in Douglas until he was 6 years old, then moved to Sierra Vista, AZ with his family where his dad, Jack, became the owner of Rudy’s Laundry and Dry Cleaners. He had a paper route and before he could even drive he bought a car from a man at church for $5.00! Paul learned the skill of dry cleaning and worked with his Dad until graduating from Buena High School in 1972. During 1973-75, Paul served in the Cumorah Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A favorite memory was performing in the Hill Cumorah Pageant with the other missionaries. Upon his return to Sierra Vista, Paul had a bigger role at Rudy’s by fixing the equipment and laundromat machines. With his natural ability to figure out the workings of detailed machinery, he branched out including coin operated games and pinball machines.
For a time Paul lived in Phoenix, AZ with his brothers, Gary and Jack LaMar Jr.. While there he worked as a driver to transport the blind to various activities, which brought him joy. Paul returned to Sierra Vista and started a career as a master CDL driver of several different vehicles from tow truck to an 18 wheeler. He worked many years in the concrete business. In 2013, Paul moved to Orem, UT to be closer to 4 of his siblings by purchasing the home his parents bought there after they left AZ in 2006. He worked until his retirement in 2020 at the Purple Mattress Company.
A gentle man, kind, big heart, always willing to help, are just a few of the ways to describe this brother of ours. He had a strong, firm testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life. Paul provided service in Church including many years as an Executive Secretary and Financial Clerk to name a few. While in Utah, he enjoyed singing in choirs, the Singles Choir, Provo’s Stadium of Fire Chorus and in his Ward Choir. Hunting in AZ with his Dad, brothers and Huish cousins, drinking yerba mate’ with others, playing games with Jocelyn and her kids, serving his Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Elaine in Orem, and a special Caribbean cruise with his two sisters, Rich and nieces Jocelyn and Tiana in 2019 were a few of the memory highlights of his.
Paul is survived by his siblings: Craig (Elaine), Gary (Pat), Jack LaMar Jr. (Karen), Kathleen Zahn (Rich), Scott (Shanon) and Jocelyn. Paul has had several faithful furry companions over the years, he is survived by his current “baby”, Chicochico. Several nieces and nephews will miss him as well. He was preceded in death by his parents who we feel were thrilled to be reunited with him again.
