Obituary written for (and by) Charles Edward McClellan -- 1947-2023
Charlie first appeared on earth
On 2/5/47.
Died 12/6 of 23,
And maybe went to Heaven.
He had malignant prostate,
Which helped take him away.
It knocked him down and prostrate,
Which is how he is today.
He also had a plethora
Of other illness issues
But he's in a better place right now
So put away your tissues.
Perhaps the inability
To eat enough just may
Have ultimately been the cause
He isn't here today.
Yet possibly those weren’t what
Charlie’s end result was needing.
He also might have croaked
From too excessive GI bleeding.
His parents, they were Cyril E.
And also Betty Starr.
Sisters? Marianna.
Brothers? David's all there are.
Married Jeanette Gidney,
1970/9/3.
She patiently put up with each
Idiosyncrasy.
He had a lovely daughter
Named Suzanne, who married, then
Had Tyler, Rachel, Tara,
And he hardly can begin
To find the words that can express
How much he loved them all —
Even more than football, soda pop
And basketball.
He got degreed in English —
Wrote a bunch of poetry.
Maybe he can sell those published
Now, posthumously.
(If anyone would like a book
By Charlie, just for fun,
Please order one across the street
When services are done.)
He made much music and played sports
As long as he was able.
After that, he liked them on
The radio or cable.
He Mormon missionaried
Two years in the Argentine.
Spent four years teaching early
Seminary, which was fine.
He tried to live his Mormon faith
As well as he could do.
He didn't say it much,
But always knew the Church was true.
Healthy life deserted him
When he was less than thirty.
After that, he muddled on —
It wasn't very purty.
He never ever lost his faith,
Depending much on prayer.
Came to understand that
God was loving, smart and fair.
He tried his best to serve the Lord
In each and every calling.
He couldn't do them all that well,
Which he found pretty galling.
He loved a lot of people
And considered them his friends,
Though he could be annoying as
Colitis or the bends.
He worked insurance, Glacier Bay
Alaska, and much fossil.
He wanted to do so much more,
But that proved quite impossil.
He can't come close to finding words
That fully do express
His gratitude for those who helped
Through all his weirdnesses.
They lifted and they carried and they
Shifted stuff around.
They never mocked or criticized,
And always could be found.
So don't be sad that he is gone,
And it's completely fit
If now and then you chuckle
At some item he has writ.
He'd like to have accomplished more,
But health did not permit.
But hopefully he left earth better,
Just a little bit.
He thanks you all for coming
To memorial or viewing.
He might be there. Or who knows
What the heck he might be doing?
So everyone drive carefully
When it's time to go.
He doesn't want to meet you
For a bunch or years or so.
A memorial service will be held at the Suncrest 10th Ward building
