Cathleen Marie – “Cathy” Larson, 74, of Orem, died Wednesday, July 26, 2023, surrounded by her family after a long trial with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leland and Sara Bean and grew up as one of four children in Pocatello, Idaho. From a young age, Cathy loved singing, dancing, skiing, and spending time with family and animals. She always loved children – her young nieces and nephews, desiring and valuing being a mother herself. During her first marriage, she adopted a son, Michael and later a daughter, Caidy. She loved her children immensely, teaching them the values of kindness, unconditional love, and fun. Cathy would go on to marry. Dennis Larson, her eternal companion, and receive four additional sons through marriage, David, Brad, Jeff, and Brian. Cathy always created a warm and welcoming home for her family.

 

Professionally, Cathy received a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in secondary education as an English teacher. She later earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in school counseling. She had a passion for creative writing, learning, and sharing literature with future generations. She taught for 20 years at Lakeridge Jr. High School and was celebrated as “Teacher of the Year” amongst other professional accolades. She had a teacher’s love for her students—helping them excel in life. She was active in her community and neighborhood and valued education and servicing others.   

 

Cathy loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. Her faith guided her through many trials in her life. She had an enduring love for Heavenly Father and radiated light and joy to all those who knew her. She held many callings in her church, sharing her testimony by example to those she worked with. She enjoyed being with others, and always seeking those out who needed extra care. Cathy is survived by husband, Dennis Larson, her mother Sara Marie Bean, two sisters, a brother and five of her children: Michael Atwood (Harvest) of Salt Lake City; Caidy Atwood of Lehi; and Jeff Larson (Anna) of Olympia, WA; Brad Coleman (Becky) of Springville, UT; David Coleman (Qunita) of Nauvoo, IL., and grandson, Dallas Navejar of Orem. She was preceded in death by her father, Leland Bean and son, Brian Larson.   

 

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Orem Sunset Heights LDS Chapel located at 1105 West 600 South, Orem, with a visitation held that morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services.  Interment will be in the Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery located at 4800 N. Eastlawn Drive, Provo.
