Cathie Mccoy

Cathie Brooks Sampson McCoy, age 68, of Orem, Utah, passed away on Friday, January 5,2018. She was born in Richfield, Utah, to Melvin Richard Brooks and Mary Richmond—the first of five children—on May 27, 1949.

Cathie had a love for music, education, and family. She attended Brigham Young University, earning her master's degree in music and later completed and additional master's degree in library science from Kent State University. Cathie utilized her musical talent in both her church and community endeavors. She was involved in temple work, genealogy, and was an active member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Cathie spent her life in service to others and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her love for her family and love of the Savior is the legacy that she leaves.

Cathie is survived by her husband of 11 years Walter McCoy of Orem, Utah; her siblings: Richard (Marjean) Brooks of Provo, Utah; Kent (Camille) Brooks of Mapleton, Utah; and Marcia (Jeff) Price of San Diego California; her children: Summer (J. Kenneth) Johnson of Rochester, New York and Samuel Sampson; and her grandchildren: Cameron Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Paige Johnson, Logan Johnson, and Reid Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents Melvin Brooks and Mary Richmond; her brother Craig Brooks; and her husband of 34 years Gene Sampson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Cascade 4th Ward Chapel located at 1051 East 200 North, Orem, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. just prior to the services. Interment will take place at the Orem City Cemetery.
