Carol "Joan" Cahoon

May 31, 1942 — October 28, 2022

Orem, Utah

Carol Joan Cahoon loving mother, wonderful grandmother, accomplished businesswoman, proud Canadian, and friend to all passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 80.

Joan was born in Calgary Alberta, Canada and was raised in the shadow of the Cardston temple in beautiful Southern Alberta. She caught the eye of her future husband, Kenny in 7th grade and they married 7 years later-3 weeks after he completed an LDS mission in Kentucky.

Joan had many talents and abilities, but her greatest gift was her ability to make others feel loved. She did this with her light-up-the-room smile, a hug, a piece of homemade apple pie or a strawberry shake. Joan was constantly thinking of others and was always ready to welcome anyone into her home (the Cahoon Hotel) with an offering of food. Even in her final moments on earth, after words had become scarce in prior months, she very clearly spoke the words “I love you” to those she loved.

No one deserved that love more than her son, Cameron. Cam spent the last 8+ years worrying, serving, and loving Joan in a most Christlike manner as her primary caregiver. The entire Cahoon family (especially our dad, Ken) would like to thank Cam for his many sacrifices and heroic acts of love.

Our sorrow for the loss of our mother, sister & grandmother & aunt is only soothed by the sure knowledge that she has been freed from the ravages of mortality and has been reunited with her angel Mother (Carol Redford), her fine father (Rex Redford) and her dear husband (Kenneth D. Cahoon).

Joan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings, including visiting teacher, Bishop’s wife, Young Women’s President, Temple worker at the Mt Timpanogos Temple.  Joan also loved serving with her husband as a proselyting Missionary in Bakersfield, California.

Joan’s felt so blessed to live close to her sisters Judy Skinner and Sharon Lynn. They were her best friends.

Following the lead of her sister & brother-in-law, Joan (with Ken) started and built a successful retail fabric business in West Jordan, Utah that has been in business for over 39 years and continues to thrive today.

Joan is survived by Lisa Conrad (John), Kristy Sego (Dan), Greg Cahoon (Linda), Ben Cahoon (Kim), and Cam Cahoon, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and a faithful dog-Lucy.

Funeral services will be held at Sundberg-Olpin & Wheeler Mortuary (495 S State St, Orem) at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 5th, 2022.  A viewing will be held before the funeral from 11– 12:30pm.

The family would like to thank the many hospice nurses, doctors, aids, and volunteers who gave amazing love and compassionate care and kindness to our beloved Mother the past several years.
