Caroline Prohosky

Caroline Jean Prohosky, age 68, of Orem, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016.  She was born January 31, 1948, in Dillon, Montana to Anna May Hardy and John Prohosky.

Caroline was a talented artist with her life's work focused on dance, film and writing. Originally an English major, Caroline started taking dance classes on the side, and fell in love with dance and decided to switch her major. She received a bachelor's degree in Dance from BYU in 1971.  Caroline continued her college education and received a master's degree from UCLA in 1980. Caroline began her teaching career at BYU Idaho (then Rick's College) in the 1970s. Prior to moving to Utah, Caroline directed her own dance company in Los Angeles. She joined the Dance Faculty at BYU in 1986 where she worked until she retired earlier this year.  Caroline has four times received honors for her choreography from the American College Dance Association; she has twice mentored student choreography to ACDA Nationals at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. She was Artistic Director of BYU’s Contemporary Dance Theatre for 13 years, touring Turkey, Israel, South Africa, Australia, the Philippines, Korea, India, China and across the United States. Caroline twice received College Awards for her Creative Work, and also BYU’s Karl G. Measer Award for Creative Work.

Caroline is survived by her brother Cary (Judy) Sargent, sister Cathy Kotter, brother Kirk (Evon) Sargent, and eight nieces and two nephews.  She is proceeded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Paul Kotter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Funeral Home, 495 South State St., Orem Utah. A viewing for friends and family will be held Friday evening, October 28th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin. Internment will immediately follow the service, held at the Orem City Cemetery.  As a family, we would like to express our thanks to the many people who have kindly supported us at this time.
