Carma Oliver

April 30, 1923 — October 19, 2017

Carma Ruth Andrasen Oliver was born on April 30, 1923, in St. Anthony Idaho, to Wando Joseph Andrasen and Mabel Woodfield Andrasen. She was the oldest in a family of five girls and one boy: Carma, Zoe, Nina, Carol, Margo, and Joseph. She loved her childhood in St. Anthony and loved to talk about all of her glorious freedoms to be a child without the dangers and threats in today’s world.

After graduating from Freemont High School in 1940, she attended BYU in Provo, Utah, where she got her BS degree in Elementary Education. She taught in three different elementary schools: Hillcrest, Geneva, and Orem Elementary. She later received her MS degree from the U of U in Elementary Science.

On January 8, 1945, she married a handsome soldier boy LaVar Oliver from Orem, Utah. They were later sealed in the Provo Temple in January 2013. They had 2 children: Michael and Susan. The family made their home in Orem, Utah, spent many summers on their farm in Green River, Utah, and finally settled in Mapleton, Utah.

Carma and LaVar loved animals. They both took in many stray dogs and cats from the streets. She was also a talented violin player and a member of the Utah Valley Symphony Orchestra. Later on, she learned how to play the accordion and the piano. Carma was a talented writer. She has put together many volumes of historical family albums with pictures, dates, and events.

Carma is preceded in death by her husband LaVar, son Michael who died from Agent Orange exposure while in Vietnam, her three grandchildren: Chelsea Anne Oliver, Eric Alexander McTavish, and Thomas Byron McTavish. She is survived by her daughter Susan Elaine Oliver of Provo.

Carma would like to thank all of those who have played a part in her life here on earth: Her remaining family and friends, members of the Mapleton 4th Ward, members of the Brighton Home Health and Hospice and the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center nurses and staff.

Funeral arrangements have been made by Sundberg Olpin Mortuary in Orem. There will be a short viewing on October 24, 2017, from 10 to 10:45 am at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah. After which, there will be a graveside service at the Orem City Cemetery around 11 am.
