Beverly Jean St.Clair Orton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on November 30, 2019, at the age of 87, in Heber, UT.
She was a woman of unwavering faith who constantly nourished others with her knowledge, testimony, service and love of the Savior.
Beverly was born on December 30, 1931, in Walkermine, CA, the first child and only daughter of Hillary Walters St.Clair and Carmen Cropper St.Clair. She was born by candlelight due to a heavy snowstorm that brought roof-top snowdrifts to the small Sierra Nevada mining town. She attended East HS in Salt Lake City and graduated from Montgomery Blair HS in Silver Spring, MD and went on to graduate summa cum laude from the University of Maryland with a degree in Microbiology. She married Frederick LeRoy Orton on August 25, 1956 at the home of her parents in Bethesda, MD and the marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake City temple days later on September 5, 1956.
Family meant everything to Beverly. She dedicated her life to raising her six children, Michelle, Douglas, David, Deanne, Steven, and Jeanette, and later extended that same dedication to her 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Beverly was a classically trained pianist and passed her love of music on to her family and to the countless piano students she taught in her home over the years. She also loved to knit, especially afghans for newlyweds and newborns in the family.
Beverly was a faithful daughter of our Heavenly Father and demonstrated her love for him by serving in her many church callings. Beverly and Fred also had the blessing of serving a church mission to the Tulsa, Oklahoma Mission, serving in Coffeeville, KS.
Beverly is survived by her children, Michelle (Mitch) Watkins of Cedar Hills, UT, Douglas (Kari) Orton of Springdell, UT, David (Kathleen) Orton of Wilmington, NC, Deanne (Ken) Johnson of Heber, UT; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Orton, mother Carmen St.Clair, father Hillary St.Clair, son Steven, and daughter Jeanette, who died at birth, and a brother John Michael St.Clair.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 7, at 2:00 pm at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary located at 495 South State Street, Orem, UT. A viewing for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at the mortuary. Burial will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
