Betty Cahoon

October 6, 1925 — December 3, 2014

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, Betty Grace Barney Rollins Cahoon, passed away on December 3, 2014 at the age of 89. She was born Oct. 6, 1925 in Delta, Utah to Charles Avon Barney and Vera Johansen Barney. Betty married Ralph L. Rollins on June 1, 1948 in the LDS Manti temple and together they reared three sons and a daughter. The success and happiness of her loved ones was her highest priority in life. After Ralph's death in 2004, Betty married Garth Cahoon in Nov. 2008 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together until his passing in Nov. 2012. Betty had a very youthful spirit and a love for life that was contagious. She had a genuine love for all she knew and tried hard to make them happy. Betty had a passion for creating beautiful things. She worked tirelessly to maintain a beautiful yard and home. As an accomplished seamstress, she sewed beautiful heirloom dresses at Christmas and Easter for her daughter and granddaughters. She was always impeccably dressed and brought her unique style and grace to every event. Blessed with a love of music and culture, she developed her musical talents, becoming proficient in piano, organ, and marimba. She helped each of her children learn to play an instrument and her family often provided musical programs with a string trio and vocal selections. Her children's and grandchildren's musical talents are a legacy to her. As a music teacher for many years, Betty taught hundreds of children to play the piano and had annual recitals at her home. She was frequently called upon to accompany choirs, soloists and other performers throughout her life. She enjoyed participating in women's organizations such as Sorosis, Symphony Guild and BYU Women. Betty was devoted to the LDS church and served as Relief Society President in the Edgemont 9th ward and Stake Relief Society President in the Edgemont Stake and the BYU 11th Stake. Living the motto that "charity never faileth" she impacted the lives of many for good. Because of her musical talent, Betty served nearly continuously as an organist or pianist in her wards from the time she was 12 until the age of 85. She is survived by her children Craig Rollins (Karen) of Washougal, WA, Kevin Rollins (Debra) of Boston, MA, Kyle Rollins (Judi) of Provo, UT and Anita Rollins Blackwood (Phil) of Austin, TX; her sisters LaVon Gardner, Myrle Watts (Kevin) of Salt Lake City, UT, and brothers Gary Barney (Lenore) of Lander, WY, and Reo Barney (Paula) of Ranchester, WY, 12 grandchildren and 24great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 8th at 11:00 am at the Edgemont Canyon Chapel, 4295 North Canyon Road in Provo. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to services. A viewing will also be held from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday Dec. 7th at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary 495 S. State Street, Orem. Interment will be at the Orem Cemetery. The family wants to thank the aides at Aspen Senior Care and her nurse Deena for their loving service to Betty.
