Bess Small Newman, 90, of Provo, Utah, passed away Thursday, November 29th. She was born November 2, 1928, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to George Jacobs Small and Helen Clement Small. She married William Pippin Newman on February 4, 1950 in Greenwood, Mississippi.
Bess graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a degree in nutrition. She taught school for many years. She loved gardening, sewing and reading. She was also an avid genealogist. She and her husband served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chinle, Arizona. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Bess is survived by her husband, William Pippin Newman and her daughter, Laura Newman Nixon (Clair Nixon) of Provo, Utah; 10 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Alford.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3700 north 303 west, Provo, Utah at 11:00 am. A viewing for friends and family will be held just prior to the service from 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the church. Burial will be in the Orem City cemetery.
